Marie, Ontario, at the age of 83.

Born on September 7, 1941, in Greenock, Scotland, Jim was the beloved son of the late George and Sarah Currie, and son-in-law of the late Ernie and Hazel Briel. A proud and dedicated soldier, James served with distinction as a Major in the Canadian Armed Forces (49th Field Regiment), where he earned the respect of all who served under him. In parallel with his military career, he also worked at Algoma Steel, demonstrating an unwavering work ethic until his retirement.

James was the devoted husband of Barbara Currie, and a deeply loving father to Michelle (Wade) and Michael (Victoria). He was a cherished Granda to Abigail and Ashley, and a proud Great Granda to Fallon.

He was a dear brother to Jean Scott (late Dick) and Betty Goodall (late Bill) and is predeceased by his sisters Anne Hansen (John), Belle Thibodeau (late Raoul), and Sally Tallon (late Eugene). James is also fondly remembered as a brother-in-law to the late Keith Briel and Robert Briel (late Sherry), and as a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Known for his strength, reliability, and quiet leadership, James was a man who could always be counted on. Whether supporting his family, tackling projects for friends, or offering steady guidance, he lived with purpose and conviction. Though reserved, he had a sharp wit and a great sense of humour. He loved the outdoors and embraced life with a spirit of adventure and a steadfast faith. He worked hard, believed in doing the right thing, and never backed down from a challenge.

Above all, James Currie was a leader of men, a protector of those he loved, and an example of integrity and strength. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Family and friends are invited to Precious Blood Cathedral for a Memorial Mass on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 am with Rev. Hamish Currie officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 (96 Great Northern Road, SSM) beginning at 12:00 pm.

The family would like to thank the staff on 3B and the Emergency Department at the Sault Area Hospital, Sault Ste.
