Biography – Lieutenant-Colonel Clyde Healey, CD, Canada 125

Lieutenant-Colonel Healey was born in Sault Ste Marie, ON in 1946. His post secondary education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Superior State University, an Ontario Teaching Certificate from North Bay Teachers’ College, Certification in Personnel Management (CHRP) from the Personnel Association of Ontario and training in Emergency Preparedness from the Emergency Preparedness College in Arnprior, Ontario.

Lieutenant-Colonel Healey joined the 49th (Sault Ste Marie) Field Regiment in 1967 after having completed five years with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 155 Squadron, and two years as an officer with Navy League of Canada. He progressed with his training and development as an Artillery Officer for the next few years, as he completed his post secondary education. He was promoted Major in 1976 and attended the Militia Command and Staff course in 1977. He commanded 148 Battery and 30-Battery, the tasked gun battery.

In 1970 Lieutenant-Colonel Healey commanded a detachment of 20 military personnel at Operation Big Dig. This archeological dig and youth hostel operated for five months at Wawa, ON as a joint operation between the Military and Lakehead University. In 1972, while attending Teacher’s College, he was seconded to Northern Ontario Militia District Headquarters for one year. He later returned to the Headquarters in 1991-93 to become G3 (Operations Training) and later Deputy Commander.

In 1980, Lieutenant-Colonel Healey was appointed Commanding Officer of the 49th (Sault Ste Marie) Field Regiment, which he commanded until 1984. In 1980, the Honourable John Black Aird, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario appointed him Aide de camp and he went on to serve The Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander, in the same capacity. He was posted to Supplementary list from 1984 until 1991, when he was taken on strength of Northern Ontario District.

In 1993 he was again appointed Commanding Officer of the Regiment until his retirement in 1999. During the Ice Storm of 1998 he acted in the capacity of Liaison Officer between 2CMBG, Ontario Hydro and Bell Canada, during the recovery operations.

Lieutenant-Colonel Healey has an extensive list of volunteer organizations that he has worked with over the years, including: 1st Vice President 432 Algoma Wing RCAFA, President Sault Ste. Marie Historical Society, President Royal Canadian Artillery Association, Board of Directors Victorian Order of Nurses, Regional Director Canadian Forces Liaison Council, Sault Amateur Soccer Association, Sault College program Advisory Board, Member of the Regimental Senate, Panel Member Office of the Commissioner of Review Tribunals, Member Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25, Director Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Director Workplace Safety North. Lieutenant-Colonel Healey is a 25 year volunteer with the Industrial Accident Prevention Association and was recognized in 2003 as the Volunteer of the Year for his chapter and of the province and again in 2007 as the Senior Volunteer of the Northern Ontario Chapter and as the Provincial Volunteer of the Year.

Lieutenant-Colonel Healey retired from employment after 35 years of services, 17 years with PUC Services Inc and 18 years with the Board of Education. PUC Services Inc. is a local utilities company that distributes electricity, water, wastewater and telecommunication. He was the Vice president of Corporate Services. He and his wife, Gunta, have three daughters; Laura a human resource specialist, Jennifer a Chef and Katie (Katrina) is a Constable with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services.

Lieutenant-Colonel Healey has served as the President of 432 Wing from 2011 to present.
