Al served as a Navigator in the Second World War after which he attended Queen’s University. Upon graduating in 1950, he immediately commenced working as a junior engineer at Algoma Steel in the Coke Ovens, and later as Superintendent and General Manager, retiring in 1985. After a brief period, he worked as a consultant for 10 years.
He had a passionate interest in cameras and the local Militia. His pride was in the 34 Tech Squadron. RCEME where he served as Commanding Officer and also in the Maintenance Company of the 26 Service Battalion, when he served as the Battalion’s Honorary Lieutenant Colonel for several years. His interest continued with the 49th Field Regiment, where he served on the Regimental Senate formany years. Also, he was a devoted member of the Soo North Rotary Club.
Al is survived by his devoted wife Doris of 66 years. They had four children; Mary Ellen, Robert, Grant and Paula who died in 1997. Al and Doris also had 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Al was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association since 2005.
