Warrant Officer (Ret) Robert (Bob) Garson CD

Bob spent 6 years in the Sault Ste. Marie Air 155 Cadet Squadron where he received his parachuting, gliding and flying wings. He then joined the 26 Maintenance Company Oct 1st1981 as a Vehicle Technician. Bob attended all training and weekends and participated in the summer Exercises (Milcons) from 1983 until 1987. Bob reached the rank of Corporal in August of 1983. Progressing through trades training in both CFB Petawawa and CFB Borden, he attained a QL 3 Vehicle Tech by August of 1985. The next training he completed was the JLC course in Meaford in the summer of 1987, and was promoted to Master Corporal on completion of the course. After he completed the SLC in October of 1989 in Aldershot Nova Scotia, Bob was promoted to Sargent January of 1989 and later promoted to Warrant Officer in June of 1998.  The next leadership course he completed was the ALP in Saint Jean Quebec in October of 2013.

In November of  2008, Bob became the CSM of the Sault Ste. Marie Coy of 33 SVC Bn. The Coy was  brought under the Command of London 31 Svc Bn. where he remained the CSM.

A couple of notable achievements were the completion of the Special Service Force Iron Man in 1993 in CFB Petawawa and receiving the ASG Commanders Coin in 2010.  In 2013, he received his CD 2 for 32 years of undetected crime and loyal service. Bob always worked for the same unit although it changed names from 26 Maintenance Coy SSM, to 49thField ,to 2 ASG, then 33Svc Bn., to 31 Svc Bn. and back to 33 Svc Bn. Bob was a Reservist for 37 years and 10 months, with both full time and part time service. He obtained an Automotive Service Technician License, a Truck and Coach Technician License and a Marine and Small Powered Equipment Mechanic.

Bob is currently completing his Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License.

His civilian employment is a Commercial Pilot. He has been a floatplane pilot for 31 years having obtained over 10,000 hrs mainly on a DHC-2 Beaver Aircraft. He managed 6 outpost camps and a Mercury Outboard Motor Dealership for 10 years. He was also the Chief Pilot and Maintenance Manager for Horne Air Ltd operating 3 Beaver Aircraft.  In 2002, Bob started his own business, Garson’s Fly-In Outposts and purchased a Cessna 180 which he still operates today. He is currently the Past President of Northern Ontario Tourist Operators (NOTO) and has been on the Board of Directors for 20 years.

Bob has been married for 23 years to his wife Andrea and has a 14 year old son Dylan and a 9 year old Black Lab named Otter.

Bob has been a member of the Air Force Association, 432 Wing Algoma, for 18 years.
